'Ageing Well'

Thursday, 18 March 2010 at the University of Gloucestershire, Park Campus, The Park, Cheltenham, in Lecture Room TC014.  Doors open at 6pm with the lecture commencing at 6.30pm.  Complimentary light refreshments will be served at 7.30pm.  Contact: glosliverylectures@glos.ac.uk

The University of Gloucestershire and the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire will be co-hosting a lecture by Baroness Neuberger DBE, entitled ‘Ageing Well’.

Baroness Neuberger DBE became a rabbi in 1977 and served the South London Liberal Synagogue for 12 years. She has undertaken a large number of voluntary and philanthropic roles and is the author of several books on Judaism, women, healthcare ethics and on caring for dying people. Her latest book is ‘Not Dead Yet — a manifesto for old age’ published in 2008. Baroness Neuberger was created a Life Peer in June 2004 (Liberal Democrat) and was Bloomberg Professor of Divinity at Harvard University for the Spring Semester 2006. She chairs One Housing Group, is President of Liberal Judaism and was Prime Minister’s Champion for Volunteering 2007-09. She has recently been appointed by the Lord Chancellor as Chair of an Advisory Panel on Judicial Diversity.

Baroness Neuberger’s lecture will begin with ‘why do we discriminate against older people’?

Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free, but places must be reserved in advance by contacting glosliverylectures@glos.ac.uk.

This event will be brought to you free of charge.  However, we are delighted that Baroness Neuberger has kindly agreed that this occasion would be an appropriate opportunity for the University to seek voluntary donations towards the University’s Wilberforce scholarship.  This scholarship was set up in 2009 by the University in partnership with the Windle Trust International. The Wilberforce Scholarship seeks to help a refugee or displaced person who would not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue their education or training to study at the University of Gloucestershire.  If you would like to make a donation, please complete and return the donation form. Alternatively, you can make a secure on-line donation via our ‘Giving to Gloucestershire’ web pages in the alumni section at www.glos.ac.uk, or via this link: https://www.ecommercegateway.co.uk/glos/donations/
